Starting Position - Snatch vs Clean
What’s the difference between the starting position for the snatch vs the clean? Not much!
The basics are the same:
Bar above the balls of the foot.
Shoulder joint above the bar.
Knees pushed out as far as the arms allow.
The only real difference is that the narrower grip of the clean means the hips and shoulders will be higher and the knees not pushed out as far, meaning different knee, hip and back angles.
Actual bar position relative to the foot and shoulder position relative to the bar will vary slightly based on proportions, but very rarely will there need to be any significant change.
You CAN use slightly different foot positions for the snatch and clean if you find that’s what works best for you.
